Habitat for Humanity Build Day!
Get building with your Abiding Savior friends! Saturday, August 16th is the date and 7:30-3:30 is the time. We will join other Lutherans to work on the Thrivent Builds home in Fullerton. Volunteers must be 18 or older; 16 and 17 year-olds are welcome with a parent! If you cannot make this date, no worries, we have 2 others reserved: Saturday, October 11th (Fullerton) and Saturday, January 17th (San Juan Capistrano). To save a space on any date, please contact Cari Chittick at cchittick@abidingsavior.com!
Our VBS Children are learning all about the Power of Jesus this week - here’s a shot from our opening gathering this morning.
Our women have banded together to provide meals for one of our dear sisters going through chemotherapy. Check out the sign up blog at http://www.aslcmeals.wordpress.com.
We will expand this ministry in to meals for our expectant mothers, others going through illness, either their own, or those in their family, or any other circumstance whereby a hot meal and a friendly face will bring comfort for those who need comforting.
If you are one of those who will benefit from this ministry, or know of someone who would, please do not hesitate to contact elizabeth brothwell at ebrothwell@abidingsavior.com, who will get the information posted to the right place and see to it that we continue to comfort those with the love of Christ who has first comforted us!

What a GREAT day! Our very own Vicar Bob was ordained and installed this past Sunday in a wonderful service attended by many. For those of you who could not attend, here are a few pictures.

Pastor Robert Sundquist and Lovely Melissa

Our Called robed in their finest.

Pastor Tom and Pastor Bob

We all enjoyed a good old traditional Lutheran pot-luck afterwards. Alas, there was no green jello, but plenty of other good things were shared.
The Wyoming mission trip has reported in, and they are doing great (and doing great things!).
To view pictures and updates of their trip, check out the mission minutes blog. Pray for their ministry, and safe travel!

Join us on Sunday, June 29 at 3pm for the most joyous occasion of Ordaining Bob Sundquist as a called Pastor in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod! Bob’s Installation here at Abiding Savior will also be completed during this service.
In true Lutheran tradition - we will have a good old fashioned Pot-Luck Supper afterwards. Please, let’s not all bring the green jello! All kidding aside, if your last name is A-K, please bring your favorite salad, L-P a main dish, and Q-Z a dessert. You may RSVP to Robin DeLong at the church office, or via e-mail at robinddelong@abidingsavior.com. Let her know how many in your family will be attending - and if you would rather provide a dish that is not assigned to your last name - no problem - just let her know what you’ll be bringing.
Pastor Greg will preach at all 5 services beginning this Saturday at 5pm, concluding with Nyte Life on Sunday evening, June 15 at 6pm. Please join us for one of our church services this weekend to hear God’s Word, and say good bye to our dearly loved Pastor and his family. There will be cake and coffee on the patio between services, with time to spend with Greg, Diana and the kids during the Education hour, 9-9:50am.
Ooops, Robert Sundquist will be ordained and installed on Sunday, June 29 at 3pm, NOT at the 11:15am service as previously stated.
Pastor Bob Sundquist, his wife Melissa and daughter Emma safely arrived in town! In the midst of boxes of books, car carriers, U-Haul trucks and the like, Bob even had the time to peek his head in the office and say hello. It’s good to have him back, Welcome home Sundquists!

This Sunday has something going on for everyone!
For those who have graciously opened their homes to house some of the choir students from Concordia Portland - they need to be picked up from church beginning at 6pm. Thank you again for responding to this need of the family of God.
Sunday is also the day we remember Pentecost, “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:1-2
We will most likely not experience a violent wind - but instead will have the pleasure of a more gentle breeze in the form of the choral ensembles from Concordia Portland joining us in all three of our Sunday Morning services.
At 11:15, 25 of our youth will be confirmed in their Christian faith. Please join us for this special service that will surely serve to remind us each one of us of what a privilege it is to belong to the Body of Christ.
After your Sunday brunch with mom and the family, come and wind down your afternoon at 4pm when The Concordia Portland Chorus presents “Building Bridges - Serving like Christ”, a collection of sacred music.
This Thursday, May 1 at 7pm our music department will present a service of Evensong as part of our continuing Traditions of Worship series. Evensong is a service of evening prayer, meant to thank God for His blessings, to close the day with prayer and praise, and to pray for God’s peace. Choral services of Evensong are celebrated regularly in the Anglican tradition, and many denominations draw on the richness of its musical and liturgical heritage. Please join us this Ascension Day as we as the Body of Christ remember that “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you in to heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go in to heaven.” Acts 1:11b.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As you recall, you authorized and we submitted a call for an Associate Pastor to the Concordia Seminary,
It is our pleasure to let you know that Associate Pastor Robert Sundquist, his wife Melissa and daughter Emma will be returning to
